Say It (1987)
7:22 min.
This video is about a situation in which a woman is being drilled to say phrases that would indicate her trust and support of those persons coaxing her. She is obviously from a non-English speaking country and her Spanish accent could place her in a number of different contexts.
The tape is about forceful persuasion, fear, and about having one’s feelings submerged in order to fill an agenda in which one does not hold belief. It is also about the isolation involved in trying to fit a pattern that is set by an authoritarian presence, in this case by the man first, and secondly by the female and male chorus.
